I first got the idea to write a musical after I penned the lyrics for the end credits of my film "Le Papillon”. I wrote the new screenplay and commenced my search for a suitable composer. Although I had never met Cali, I enjoyed his music and had heard great things about him as a person. The more we worked together on his ideas, the more I realized that he possessed many of the qualities found in the character "Baptiste" (one of two clowns, Antoine Dulery's partner. His audition started him on an adventure that, after many detours, finally took form in Quebec.
SYNOPSIS
TOMMY (10 years old) lives with his mother BEETY, in a honey farm in the country, far from Montreal. TOMMY has never known his father (he imagines that his father is an astronaut) and BETTY searches on the internet in vain for a companion? She is a melancholic woman, and it saddens TOMMY to see her so unhappy. But how to bring back her smile ? One day a small travelling circus arrives in the village where TOMMY goes to school. But due to administrative problems they cannot erect the big top and are forced to flee the village. An idea starts to form in TOMMY’s head. What better way to bring joy back into ther lives than a circus ? After a great deal of effort he succeeds in convincing his mother to offer their land to the small circus…
